State pressuring school principals to manipulate education data, allege principals and teachers

Group education officers in the Indian state of Maharashtra are reportedly instructing school principals to provide false information on the Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE+) data. The officers are allegedly asking principals to mark 'Yes' in all columns of the data, regardless of accuracy. Some principals have refused to comply, expressing concern about the transparency and accuracy of educational statistics. This is not the first time government officials have requested schools to submit favorable reports.

Haryana hikes mid-day meal budget by 72%

Haryana government has allocated an amount of ₹661 crore this financial year against the previous year’s budget of ₹384 crore to provide mid-day meal to students. An official spokesperson said that 200 ml flavoured fortified milk is also provided to the students of Class 1 to 8 at least three days a week along with mid-day meal.

Bengal govt to roll out open-air classes for primary school students

The West Bengal education department is all set to roll out a new initiative --'Paray Sikshalay' (neighborhood school) -- under which primary and pre-primary students of state-run schools will be given lessons in open spaces, an official here said on Sunday.

UP to launch ‘happiness curriculum’ in primary schools from next session

As part of the pilot project, 150 schools in 15 districts have been asked to work on the curriculum. Five books will be prepared for the children in classes 1 to 5. In this sequence, the subject matter of the curriculum is being prepared by organising a workshop of 32 teachers, he said.

Orissa HC quashes state notification on 11560 primary schools over low enrolment

More than a year after the Odisha government ordered closure of around 11,560-odd primary schools due to low enrolment, the Orissa High Court on Tuesday quashed the notification.
