12 lakh die of tobacco-related illness in India every year: Experts

According to the Global Youth Tobacco Survey (GYTS), nearly one- fifth of students aged 13-15 years are using tobacco products in India. The survey revealed that 38% of cigarettes, 47% of bidi and 52% of smokeless tobacco users picked up the habit before their 10th birthday.

Malaysia follows New Zealand, discusses bill to prohibit tobacco sales 

If the bill is passed, those born on or after Jan. 1, 2007, won’t be allowed to smoke, buy or own any tobacco products even after they reach age 18.

"The notification prohibits the manufacture, storage, distribution or sale of 11 brands of pan masala containing magnesium carbonate as an ingredient, packaged or unpackaged,” the state government said in a statement.
