According to the latest WC weekly report, Ranjit Sagar dam in Punjab has recorded a deficiency of 61% from normal storage while Bhakra and Pong reservoirs, located in Himachal Pradesh, recorded a deficiency of 25% from normal storage

Pong Dam on the Beas received an all-time high inflow of 7.3 lakh cusecs of water on Monday, resulting in the level in the reservoir crossing the permissible limit of 1,390 feet following which the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) opened floodgates, inundating villages in Indora and Fatehpur sub divisions

Bhakra, Pong Dams brimming, Punjab put on high alert

Both Bhakra and Pong Dams are brimming after heavy rain in their catchment areas in Himachal Pradesh. Both dams are managed by Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB).

Bhakra Dam over Sutlej, which has a catchment in Himachal Pradesh, also witnessed a heavy inflow. The dam has reached its top filing capacity of 1680 feet. The floodgates of the dam were opened on Sunday, but the rise in the water levels in both dams are posing a threat downstream in Punjab.

Himachal: Cow sanctuary to be set up in Fatehpur

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu dedicated development projects worth ?43.34 crore in Fatehpur constituency, including a new police station, an indoor stadium with a swimming pool, and a state-of-the-art cow sanctuary. He also announced subsidies for youth purchasing e-taxis and a world-class milk plant worth ?250 crore. The chief minister inaugurated a double-lane bridge and two functional household tap connection schemes. He pledged to increase revenue resources and demanded an increase in royalty share for hydropower projects.

A total area of 75,000 acres, spread over 94 villages in Nurpur and Dehra tehsils in Himachal Pradesh, was acquired displacing 20,722 families and a population of 1.5 lakh.

BBMB to release 26,000 cusecs water from Pong Dam today, alert sounded

The water level in Pong Dam reservoir was recorded at 1,386.02 feet on Tuesday noon, which is very close to the danger mark of 1,390 feet.

BBMB decides against releasing more water

After the water level crossed the 1,974 feet mark, BBMB released 19,000 cusecs of water through flood gates of the dam two days ago. In addition to this, 36,000 cusecs water is already being released through turbines.
