Officials of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) on Tuesday said that they have stopped the movement of heavy trucks and multi-axle vehicles from 11pm to 5 am to prevent any further damage to the road surface.

Even as the authorities repeatedly assured that most drains had been desilted and that the city would be ready to combat waterlogging this monsoon, three hours of heavy rain on Thursday left many roads submerged in knee-deep water.

Gurguram records highest no. of traffic fatalities in district

The data, compiled by Haryana Vision Zero (HVZ), a group of experts on road safety, commissioned by the state government in May 2017 to achieve zero fatality in road accidents, shows that there has not been any major improvement in the situation as compared to last year. In 2018, 210 casualties were reported during the same period in the city.

On May 8, a large chunk of concrete fell off the surface of the flyover in the wee hours causing a large hole on the road.

Court directs cops to act against NHAI contractor

An NHAI order, issued on Friday, stated that the committee would assess the condition of the damaged area and suggest remedial measures.
To ensure that no further damage is caused to the Hero Honda Chowk flyover, the traffic police on Thursday decided to restrict the movement of heavy vehicles on the flyover and started diverting them to the service lane from 5pm.

A meeting of GMDA engineers was held on Monday in this regard. According to GMDA officials, realignment of a sharp curve in the 600-mm water pipeline is urgently required near Signature Tower, where the burst occurred, leading to water flowing on to the main road and affecting the movement of traffic in that area.
