Worshippers at a 184-year-old Byculla church filed a non-cognisable complaint (NC) at Nagpada police station on Sunday, accusing fellow members of changing the name of the church without consulting them.

It is the third time that MCG is scheduled to auction properties of tax defaulters. In November 2017, MCG auctioned four properties, the first such instance in Haryana. The following month, it auctioned six more properties. The 10 properties were auctioned for a cumulative sum of Rs 7.75 crore.

Gurugram police forms SIT to probe 2017 MCG property tax scam

A routine audit in August 2017 found that between August 2015 and April 2017, three MCG employees allegedly forged signatures of the then commissioner, joint commissioners and zonal taxation officers (ZTOs) to allow 95 property owners deposit their tax under the residential category, instead of the commercial bracket. Commercial tax slabs are roughly five times higher as compared to the residential slabs.
