Signs of monsoon weakening in Himachal, 55% rain deficit in 1st week of August

Apart from localised events of torrential rains that triggered flash floods, rainfall activity has mostly remained light to moderate in the hill state. Indian Meteorological Department’s (IMD) Shimla centre director Surender Paul said Himachal recorded 30.6mm rain against a normal of 68.4mm in the first week of the month.

Freak weather: Apple production in Himachal likely to drop by 50%

Unfavourable weather conditions including warm winters and abrupt rainfall patterns are expected to reduce apple production in Himachal Pradesh by 50% this year. The state is likely to produce 1.25 crore boxes of apples, compared to over 3.36 crore boxes last year. The lack of snowfall, rain, hail, and untimely snowfall have all contributed to the poor apple crop. The reduced production has also impacted carton factories in the region, with a 60% decrease in demand for cartons.

Sukhu meets Khattar, says water cess won’t harm Haryana

Sukhu assured Khattar that the water cess to be levied by his government won’t cause any loss to Haryana. The Himachal CM clarified that water cess would not be levied on water but instead on power generation in about 172 hydropower projects being operated in the state.
