Chandigarh in severe heatwave’s grip; orange alert issued

As similar conditions are expected to prevail for the next few days, IMD has issued an orange warning for Sunday and Monday, asking people to be prepared.

The maximum temperature fell slightly from 44°C on Friday to 43.8°C on Saturday at the Sector 39 IMD observatory, but was 7.2 degrees above normal. Chandigarh: Mercury to touch 45°C by weekend, IMD issues yellow alert for heatwave

A heatwave is declared in the city when the maximum temperature goes beyond 40°C and simultaneously rises at least 4.5 degrees above normal, or if the maximum temperature goes past 45°C, regardless of how much it departs from the normal.
