Chicago freezes at -20 degrees, midwest cold wave blast to get worse in US

More than 1,200 flights cancelled due to blizzard in United States

Blizzard warnings were in effect early on Monday in northeast Missouri through metro Chicago and northeast into Michigan as the storm brought winds up to 45 miles per hour (72 kph) and more than 12 inches (15 cm) of snow to the region, the National Weather Service (NWS) said.

The National Weather Service said in an advisory that travel on Monday morning will be “very dangerous to impossible” and the heavy snow was difficult to shovel and may cause falling tree limbs and power outages.(AP)

United States weather forecaster sees 65% chance of El Nino from September

Chances of the emergence of the El Nino weather pattern have increased to 65% during the fall (September to November) and 70% during the winter 2018-19 (December to February), a US government weather forecaster said on Thursday.
