Canada school cancels permission for ‘Khalistan Referendum’ citing AK-47 posters

Canadian authorities have withdrawn permission for the organisers of the Khalistan Referendum to hold voting at a public school after concerns were raised over promotional materials featuring an AK-47 machine gun. The event was scheduled for 10 September in Surrey, British Columbia. The Surrey District School Board cancelled the rental agreement due to a violation of their policies. The referendum seeks to establish an independent Sikh state in Punjab. India has expressed its displeasure over the use of Canadian territory for the separatist referendum.

Against the September 2015 allotment of plot for ₹131 crore, WTC Chandigarh has already paid ₹108 crore to GMADA within the allowable time period extending to June 2026. Further, WTC Chandigarh has been regularly highlighting the discrepancies in their calculations and delay in grant of permission to mortgage (PTM) by GMADA against executed term sheets since 2022.

Home developers’ body submits memorandum in support of fourth floor

Gurugram Home Developers? Association has submitted a memorandum to a special committee formed by Haryana government to look into issues surrounding the construction of a fourth floor on residential plots. The state government banned construction of the fourth floor in February, citing a potential violation of density norms and pressure on infrastructure in the colonies. The association has said hundreds of plot buyers across the state have purchased plots with the objective of building four floors, and money has been invested by buyers that has now been stuck due to the ban.

Himachal assembly passes groundwater amendment Bill

Himachal Pradesh assembly on Thursday passed the HP Groundwater (Regulation and Control of Development and Management) Amendment Bill, 2023, with a voice vote amid the opposition BJP resisting the move to “dilute” the Act by abolishing the provision of punishment.

Now, offenders will be imposed a fine of <span class='webrupee'>₹</span>10 lakh for each violation. The Bill was introduced in the assembly on Wednesday by deputy chief minister Mukesh Agnihotri. The amendment in Section 21 of the Himachal Pradesh Groundwater (Regulation and Control of Development and Management) Act, 2005, provides that in place of imprisonment of five years, the offender will be penalised with a fine of <span class='webrupee'>₹</span>10 lakh.
