Himachal Pradesh experienced winter-like chill in peak summers with day temperatures staying 10 degrees Celsius to 20 degrees Celsius below normal as relentless rains lash the hill state on Wednesday. The sky remained overcast throughout the state and strong winds accompanied by heavy rains swept across the region.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said southwesterly winds blew towards the region in the last 24 hours, which brought some moisture from the Arabian sea, leading to localised rain spells in some parts. The rise in mercury is likely to continue, with temperatures forecast to touch 37°C on Thursday, 38°C by Friday and 39°C on Saturday, and cross the 40-degree mark by Sunday.

The fresh rainfall which started on Thursday night has added to the woes of Punjab farmers who have already suffered damages to the near-harvest wheat crop during the previous spell of rain, high-velocity winds and hailstorm last week.
Bengaluru and several other parts of Karnataka are most likely to witness heavy rain in the coming days, forecasts from agencies said.

The MeT department says ‘severe heat wave’ conditions are likely at isolated places in the state over the next two days.
With little respite in sight, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also warned of ‘severe heat waves’ in some pockets on Sunday.
The weather department has forecast partly cloudy skies with light rain or thunderstorm for Monday along with strong surface winds during the day.
