History-sheeter killed in 2nd police encounter in Mathura

A reward of ₹50,000 was announced for the arrest of Manoj alias Uttam, 29, the accused, after he absconded from police custody within eight hours of his arrest on Friday.

As per a statement issued by Uttar Pradesh director general of police Prashant Kumar, Manoj was arrested following an encounter during which he sustained a bullet injury on his leg, police said. He was rushed to the district hospital in Mathura for treatment. (File)

Punjab CM Mann announces closure of toll plaza on Moga-Kotkapura road

Moga CM Bhagwant Mann announced the closure of the Singhawala toll plaza, accusing previous governments of allowing the "open loot" of the public. This is the 10th toll plaza to be shut since the AAP came to power, saving people ?44.43 lakh in toll fees. Mann also criticized the lack of ambulance or recovery van facilities at the closed toll plazas. The agreement for this toll plaza was signed in 2006, but fines for delays were never recovered from the company. The company had requested an extension due to farmers' agitation and COVID-19, but the government denied it.

Chief minister Bhagwant Mann on Wednesday announced the closure of the Singhawala toll plaza on the Moga-Kotkapura road near Chand Purana and targeted the previous governments for “the open loot of general public through these shops”.

Excise dept to issue MRP list with liquor permit for pvt events, says Harpal Singh Cheema

The excise department in Punjab, India has started issuing a list of maximum retail prices for liquor along with permits for private functions to prevent people being ripped off by the "liquor mafia". The permits only allow the applicant to serve liquor to private guests, and no quantity can be sold to anyone for consideration. Finance, excise and taxation minister Harpal Singh Cheema said the measure would encourage people to buy liquor from licensed shops and discourage illegal trade.

CM Mann announces closure of Samana toll plaza

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann closed the Samana-Patran road toll plaza, making it the ninth toll plaza to be closed. Mann said more toll plazas will be freed in the coming days, calling them "shops for open loot of the general public." He added that every penny plundered from people will be recovered, and FIRs will be lodged against the companies. The toll plaza had several shortcomings, and a fine of INR 1.48 crore was imposed on the company, but no action was initiated. Mann said by closing this toll plaza, INR 3.80 lakh of the common people would be saved daily.
